Haight Ashbury Community Nursery School

Activities and Enrichment

A distinct advantage of operating a nursery school in an urban environment is that we have easy access to top-notch enrichment. These are just a few of the grand experiences that augment our usual free play each week.

Music and Movement
Renowned San Francisco musician and music/movement teacher Gayle Schmitt joins us regularly for "singing story time." The children follow her lively narratives with dramatic play, singing, and dancing. Gayle's band, the Toodala Ramblers, won "Best Song for Younger Children" by the Children's Music Web Awards and a Parents' Choice award.

Acrosports
Expert coaches and world-class artists bring Acrosports classes right to our clubhouse. Using obstacle courses and gym equipment, they help children develop coordination, balance, social skills, and self-confidence.

Insect Discovery Lab
This year the Center for Ecosytem Survival dispatched an experienced entomologist to the nursery school with a collection of exotic insects. The children got an early education in critter studies, and handled these fascinating creatures.

Field Trips
The class takes a field trip once a month. Favorite destinations include:
